Job information

This position requires a solid understanding of Solaris and Oracle database administration, monitoring and alerting and an understanding of how a large-scale storage environment interacts with dependent applications.  A solid understanding of an Oracle distributed storage environment comprising grid controllers and nodes is key.  An ability to proactively assist in building out the monitoring and alerting environment is also important. The role also requires active contribution to improvements in the stability and maintenance of the distributed storage environment.  This will be done by engaging directly with the Trading Technology engineering team as well as other support teams in the organization.  As the position is part of the overall IT Business Support team, it is very important to be able to proactively engage the rest of the team to train them in the use of the monitoring tools and ensure rapid responses to production incidents.

• Monitor and measure performance of distributed storage environment;
• Install, configure and support Solaris environment;
• Monitor and re-start grid controllers and nodes;
• Develop detailed support escalation procedures to deliver rapid response times to production incidents;
• Work with engineering team to troubleshoot production incidents;
• Document support workflows, processes and procedures;
• Build-out IT Business Support knowledge base articles;
• Establish database support dashboards and metrics to facilitate a data-driven approach to problem resolution;
• Performance analysis and work with the engineering team to tune storage systems;
• Train support team in Lithuania to performing alerts and monitoring functions.

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of storage fabrics, RAID technologies, high-end SAN and block storage access/protocols/designs
• Proven System Administration experience with UNIX, Linux and Windows
• Ability to take full responsibility and ownership of tasks with a strong focus on hitting deadlines whilst being service minded
• Very good understanding of the underpinnings of incident and problem management (ITIL)
• Experience in building and supporting monitoring and alerting for storage environments
• Experience in fiber channel networks, network attached and various backup storage solutions
• Experience Capacity planning and performance analysis / tuning of the Storage infrastructures
• Experience with management, monitoring & reporting of storage stacks
• Experience with IT projects with a focus on timely delivery
• Knowledge of common software development life cycles (SLDC)
• Experience of communicating at all levels of the organization
• Appreciation of Agile development and project management methodologies
• Appreciation for test / behavior driven development
• Fluent English (written and spoken) 

Desired Competencies

• Working knowledge of Object Oriented Programming
• Working knowledge of database designs
• ITIL Certification
• Technical certifications in any advanced function such as Virtualization, Networking, Operating Systems, Cloud & Security would be considered beneficial
• Experience of working with Atlassian tools (i.e. Confluence, JIRA and Bamboo)
• DevOps experience with frameworks such as Chef or Puppet
• Experience with TDD, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery
• Experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban
• Experience in scripting experience (Bash, Python or Perl)
